Hanging in of Coloured Threads

In this short tutorial, I will show you how I add colour to my lace.  The process is fairly simple, if you follow the steps detailed below.  The examples are  the petals from the pansy design.

Note...  The two threads of each pair are drawn in here, as opposed to a single line, in the hope that it makes it easier to follow.

Petal A

Hang coloured pair here at the top pin hole.

Take the right hand white pair and whole stitch through the coloured pair and the white pair on the left. Supporting these pairs with the flat of the hand, remove top pin and replace as shown in diagram C.

The white weaver will now support the coloured thread.

The coloured thread is now in the right position to become the weaver. NOTE. No threads are thrown out at this stage, what would have been the white weaver now becomes an extra passive.

After working the last pin, whole stitch the two white pairs.
Tie a reef knot with the coloured pair and lay to back of pillow to be cut off. I usually work a few holes before cutting off these threads, just  in case I have made a mistake, and need to undo some of the lace.

Petal B

You will need to hang two coloured pairs from the top pin.

In whole stitch work right hand white pair through ONE coloured pair, leave -

Work left hand white pair through ONE coloured
pair, leave -

Take right hand white pair through left hand white
pair and the left hand coloured pair.

Support pairs as you did before, remove  support pin and replace between centre pairs. You should have pairs hanging from the top pin in this order, reading from the left, white, colour, pin, white, colour.

The coloured pair on the right becomes the weaver, the other coloured pair becomes a passive which runs down the centre of the petal until pin A has  been  worked, then it becomes a weaver for the second side.
To finish... work the coloured pairs through the white pairs, in whole stitch, tie and lay back to be cut off. Work the white pairs through each other in  whole stitch and one twist on each.
They are now ready to go out and to be used in the ground.

Petal C

A coloured pair hung from each of these top pins, as in petal A.
At B one of the coloured weavers becomes a central passive.

To finish... Work the  last  working coloured thread through all the pairs, Work the two coloured pairs through each to lay back and to be cut off.
Whole stitch and one twist with the white pairs.  These two pairs are now  ready to work  the ground.
