Fuchsia Bookmark

This is one bookmark that never gets misplaced. I have designed a book with an integral bookmark.
Once again I looked to my garden, this time I choose the fuchsia.
This would make a great gift. If you don't want to make a book you can easily purchase one, preferable cloth bound, or cover a hard backed book with your chosen material.
Whatever the size of your book, this pattern is very easy to lengthen or shorten. Just add or subtract the heart shapes.

Gutermanns 100/3 silk was used.

Fuchsias come in many colours, so have fun, choose your own colour combination.

You will need:-

       A Book
       Silk thread 100/3
       Bondaweb
       Ribbon.

Bobbins

34 pairs   main colour
2 pairs    for pink hearts
3 pairs    for green leaves/stems.
5 pairs    for red flower part
2 pairs    for purple flower parts

If you just choose to make the bookmark, it is still nice to bond the lace to silk ribbon.

Start here -    Follow the following diagrams and instructions...

The pricking for the Fuchsia Bookmark. If you Open this image in a new window, you will be able to print it.

WORKING DIAGRAM NO 1

Stage 1
A = Run white pair through pink pair in whole stitch B = Run this white pair through pink, white, pink.

Stage 2
Remove pin, supporting the pairs with your hand, and replace the pin making sure the pairs lie in this order...reading from the right pink, white, pin pink, white. Now, with the right hand pink pair cloth stitch to the left through all the pairs, bringing in the next white pair from the left, continue on following diagram 3.

A  =  Work the coloured weaver through to the centre coloured pair work through this pair and pin up between. Work one pink pair down each side to B.

B  =  Note there are 3 pairs of bobbins at each of these pins. The two white pairs whole stitch together, but add no twists at this point

Once the bookmark is complete, purchase a piece of ribbon the same width and length of the lace.
Iron the ribbon, to make sure it is completely flat.
Cut a piece of bondaweb the same width and length of the ribbon.
Cover the surface of your ironing board with a piece of baking parchment, to protect the surface from any stray bondaweb.

Diagram A
Lay your ribbon onto this surface, with the piece of bondaweb on top, lay your lace on top of this, taking care to match the edges. Cover with another piece of parchment. Following instructions given with the bondaweb, iron the three surfaces together.      Allow to cool.

Diagram B
Now, cut a piece of bondaweb just to the length of the lace you wish to stick to the book front. This is ironed to the other side of the ribbon.

Diagram C
The rest of the bookmark lies free to go over back cover to lie inside any page you want to mark.

Note...
Beads can be added to the ends of the bookmark using the threads, after they have been tied, that were used for making the lace.
